Introduction to Great India

It’s set in India, and you need to use a little imagination to work out the story behind the game. Fortunately, the graphics make it easy to do this. A handsome prince wants the hand of the beautiful princess in marriage, but the Moghul wants him to pay a vast sum of money before he will agree to it. Maybe - we don’t know for sure. You can choose your own story - it doesn’t affect the way the game works.

Great India is set in a room situated in an Indian palace, much the like the Amber Palace at Jaipur. There is red-patterned silk carpet on the floor, with mauve voile hangings at the opening where windows would be. The player overlooks a lake and other palaces, or maybe other parts of the same palace. The scene is set at sunrise, when the sky is still a little bit hazy and pink. When the game first opens, there are cushions set against the wall by the lake, where the slots eventually appear.

The soundtrack is one of gentle bells and other instruments until you get a win, when there is a loud crash of cymbals. Not what we think of as typically Indian, but nonetheless it’s a very pleasant theme to play the game by.

When you win, the court symbols change to having a gold edging, and, if you are lucky, some special symbols will appear. The special symbols become animated when you have a win. The lotus flower (Wild) moves its petals and Ganesh (the Scatter symbol) sort of roars at you. The symbols are strong and brightly coloured, in contrast to the background. The graphics as a whole are very attractive and easy on the eye. There are nine standard symbols and two special symbols.

3.    The auto play button gives you a number of options: you can set your auto bet to 5, 10, 15, 25 or 50 rounds. You can also set it to go to auto bet for other reasons: on a win, on a feature, single win, win limit and loss limit.

Our Verdict on Great India

We found Great India a pleasant and easy game to play, so it didn’t matter too much that there were no game instructions, although we would have preferred more detail in the pay lines. Great India didn’t have the number of special features that some other games have, which probably makes it a better game for beginners rather than seasoned gamers. We couldn’t work out how to get to the bonus spins - it didn’t happen for us - but maybe we should have played for longer. Despite all that, we liked the graphics in this game, so it was worth playing.
