Theme, Graphics & Soundtrack

As is usual with CT Gaming titles, there is no soundtrack. As ever, you are asked during the game’s startup whether you want to play with sound/music. Hitting the yes option will really make very little difference. The only time you will hear any actual music is when the game is idle and it wants to remind you to play.

Similarly, there is nothing worth waiting for in terms of the game’s sound effects, so stick it on mute and provide your own sounds. Literally anything will do, this is a fruit based slot, there is no theme that you can add to with any particular genre or mood. The sound effect that accompanies a win is a short jingle then a thud, so don’t waste your time sitting at your laptop to hear that, because you will be distinctly underwhelmed.

The background is a seaside scene and it’s just as well, because anything else would be misleading. This is a basic fruit slot exactly like the ones you used to play in person in the numerous arcades you can find in any seaside town. And very little has changed. The fruits here may be rendered in something approaching HD, but everything else is much as you left it back in 1993.

How to Play Hit the Hot

1. Use the blue ‘i’ button in the top left corner of the screen to view the win amounts for each combination.

2. To play in autoplay mode, use the green settings icon in the bottom left of the screen and adjust the AUTOPLAY settings using the plus and minus buttons. You can also press and hold the SPIN button for 2 seconds to activate autoplay.

3. In the bottom centre of the screen the total bet amount is displayed. You can adjust this by clicking the green settings icon in the bottom left of the screen. Once you’re in the settings, you can adjust the line bet using the plus and minus buttons. In demo mode, the number of lines played is fixed at 100.

4. To start play, click the large red SPIN button in the bottom right of the screen.

Our Verdict

This is a fruit themed slot. CT Gaming call it ‘jackpot concept’, which is interesting. Maybe ‘jackpot concept’ is shorthand for ‘no features’.

That’s right, there are no features. There’s a Wild and a Scatter. That’s your lot. You are really going to need to be looking for a basic, old school slot experience to get anything out of this game because the RTP isn’t great and with low volatility it’s not too exciting either.

The absolute maximum theoretical win for this game is 1500. Not as a multiplier of total bet, just a 1500 jackpot. With low volatility and no features, it’s difficult to see how you might achieve this, but hopefully you won’t lose too much if you do decide to chase the jackpot.

Unfortunately, the clunky interface that CT Gaming use for all of their titles is no different here. Selecting a bet amount, in particular, is difficult, and reactions are slow using the desktop version.

Earlier in this review we advised that you stick on any old playlist to make up for the fact that the soundtrack is pretty much non-existent. In fact, to avoid becoming irritated by the lack of recognition that slot-based gameplay has evolved in the last thirty years, you might want to opt for an 80s playlist. Or whatever decade you grew up in. Younger players would obviously be somewhat at a loss here, but it’s also highly unlikely that they are going to choose to play this game anyway. For older players, try to recall clutching at your coins with sweaty palms as you headed towards the fruit machine of the past, to the sounds of Bananarama.
