MonkeyPop from Avatar UX features a lovely watercolour aesthetic with symbols that are drawn in a style that really pays homage to Chinese arts and culture. This style of painting is called shuǐ-mò (which translates to water and ink), and you can really tell that the Avatar UX team really did their research and worked with designers that could replicate this unique style.  

MonkeyPop RTP and Variance

The MonkeyPop RTP is 96.33%. This is right within the average range for online slots, but is much, much higher than we’ve seen from other PopWins games – such as PiggyPop (95.5%) and LolliPop (95.82%).

In terms of volatility, MonkeyPop is a medium variance game – which is pretty impressive, considering the top prize is worth over 10,000x.

How to Win

MonkeyPop begins with 486 ways to win, but this can expand up to 33,614. Wins are created by landing matching symbols on adjacent reel. When you hit a win, all winning symbols pop to create two more symbols which ultimately increases the height of the reel and the number of ways to win.

Removing Low-Paying Symbols

During the base game, a special perk is awarded when all reels reach their full height. A random number of low-paying symbols are removed from the game and two free spins are awarded. During this short bonus, there is an increasing multiplier that starts at 1x, 2x or 3x.

Free Spins

Three bonus symbols landing on the reels will trigger the main free spins bonus. Before the round begins, the Reward Reel screen will appear which determines:

• Number of free spins: between 5 to 10
• Starting ways to win: 486, 2048 or 6250
• Starting multiplier: 1x to 4x
• Multiplier increase interval: between 1 and 5

During this round, the reels begin at either 3, 4, 5 or symbols high and they don’t shrink back to their original state in between spins.

You can also collect bonus symbols across spins. Once you’ve collected 3, one of the high-paying monkey symbols will be upgraded and award prizes of either 5x or 10x what their value would normally be. It’s possible to upgrade multiple monkeys in the same bonus.

It’s also possible to trigger the base game bonus by fully expanding all reels. You’ll get 2 free spins with a random number of low-paying symbols removed from the reels.
