Introduction

Ore Power is a relatively simple game from the Asian start-up Dragoon Soft. It is fairly modest compared to many other Dragoonsoft free play slots, but it does bear comparison to slightly more complex mining-themed slots like Nolimit City’s Fire in the Hole slot. It is a little short on extras, but it does include a free spins bonus, which is always welcome.

Ore Power has a 5-reel grid with 3 columns. It has 25 pay lines. The minimum bet size is 0.25 and the maximum is 750 with the 25 lines being fixed. There are 12 symbols: Gold, Red Diamond, Blue Diamond, Green Diamond, Miner’s Helmet, Miner’s Lantern, Pickaxe, Shovel, and the four card suits of Spade, Heart, Diamond and Club. The wild is a cluster of sticks of dynamite.

Theme, graphics and soundtrack

The mining theme can be a very fruitful one. We’re in an enforced, closed setting with the potential for all kinds of discoveries and dangers. That cluster of dynamite looks quite exciting, too, but when it does blow up, it’s what you might describe as a ‘contained explosion’ - and that’s as dynamic as the effects get.

The depiction of the mine in the background is quite well done, with ramshackle structures, a mining car railway and a gleaming load of gold. Sadly, Dragoon Soft have not done very much with it.

We can’t leave this section without commenting on the soundtrack. For a company steeped in the traditions of Asian animation and design, it’s slightly bizarre to be presented with an electronic soundtrack that sounds horribly reminiscent of the incidental music to a 1970s sitcom. If you stick around to play, you’re very likely to be reaching for the mute button before this utterly inappropriate musical accompaniment drives you mad.

Ore Power review: Our verdict

Although Ore Power looks nice, despite the punning title, it is something of a pedestrian experience. There is no bonus game and the extras amount to not much more than free spins, which is surely the minimum expected of an online slot. The payout is modest, too. It’s briefly diverting but no more than that - it doesn’t offer big wins to compensate for the lack of variety, so it turns out to be a bit of a disappointment.

FAQs

What is the RTP and variance?

Unfortunately, neither the RTP nor variance are reported by the game maker and it has not been adequately measured anywhere else. Dragoon Soft tend to keep the RTP of their game at least in line with the 96 per cent average and often more, but this is only speculation.

What is the maximum payout?

The maximum payout for this game is 400,x which is a fairly low figure.

Are the spin results genuinely random?

Yes. All spins are controlled by a random number generation algorithm, which means that there is no human interference with or influence over the outcomes.

Is there a secret to winning when playing online slots?

There is no connection between one spin and the next one, nor is there any change in the likelihood of any combination occurring. The spins are entirely random and there is no way a player can influence the game. It is pure chance.
