Theme, graphics & soundtrack 

This beautiful and atmospheric slot is a futuristic fantasy, with gleaming robots, glowing energy crystals and the evil character KAIN who tries to divert the energy from the robots to himself. The designs and animations are reminiscent of characters in Pixar's movie WALL-E, although the background scene couldn't be more different. 

The symbols are simply robots and crystals on invisible reels suspended in a cave full of luminous rock, with tiny dust motes floating in the glow. When the game is idle, every symbol has a resting animation and the whole scene seems to float in the swirling darkness beyond. Accompanied by an ambient soundtrack, it really does transport you to a completely different universe.

How to play Robots: Energy Conflict 

1. Once the game loads, you will be taken to an opening screen that gives a detailed animation of each of the three bonus rounds available. You can skip this by pressing the play button; alternatively, you can skip it entirely the next time you load the game by selecting 'don't show this again'. 
2. Before you start, familiarise yourself with the game and its settings, including the paytable and rules, by using the information icon to the bottom left of the screen.

5. To use autospin, touch and hold the spin button to select the number of automatic spins. Free spins

Eight free spins are triggered by a stacked scatter symbol on the third reel. There are three types of scatter, with each dictating which robot will be fighting for you. Paylines are increased from 25 to 40 during the bonus round:

Robot VEI will shoot into the reels up to seven times to turn symbols wild.
Robot FATBOY will turn two random reels wild.
Robot BEI will shoot twice to turn symbols into sticky wilds.

Evil robot KAIN will attempt to drain energy from the three robots during the free spins round, reducing their ability to create wilds.

Crystal wilds

During the free spins round, three crystal wilds can recharge a robot's weapons, causing them to turn more symbols wild.

Robots: Energy Conflict review: our verdict

Robots: Energy Conflict is a beautiful looking slot and its graphics and animations are stunning, particularly during the free spins bonus. With a robot on one side and KAIN on the other, they shoot at random symbols on the reels while energy flashes between them, either sapping or recharging their strength. 

While the animations and effects look incredible, we found that the game paused for far too long between winning free spins, which became frustrating. There is also no opportunity to retrigger the free spins, so the maximum number of free spins is always eight. That said, the increased number of paylines during the bonus round makes up for this a little.
