Spectrum looks like it has been inspired by Tron and offers none of the old school feel of some other Novomatic games. There are still the standard paytable symbols tha...t you would expect to find on a Novomatic slot, along with a 3x5 grid, but Spectrum offers no less than 243 different ways to win, rather than the standard paylines and rules.

Introduction
There are multiple ways to play and win, something that Novomatic slots have never really been renowned for, along with a visual feast of colour and neon lights. Add to this an easy-to-understand and simple-to-play format, as well as a bonus feature, and it is easy to see why Spectrum is a popular choice for all sorts of different players.
This really is a game that all sorts of different players can enjoy. Whether you are looking for a slot that has lots of visual appeal, one that really delivers when it comes to uncomplicated spinning action or one that offers the potential for big wins, Spectrum has something to offer you.
There is no denying that this game isn’t the most sophisticated slot you will find out there, but that is all part of its appeal. It proves that you don’t need bags of features, bells and whistles to have fun spinning and to enjoy some adrenaline-pumping wins.
It is also a game that can very simply be tailored to meet your exact needs when it comes to creating the right environment and action, to offer you the slot experience you enjoy the most. The personalisation options are plentiful, from allowing you to change the size of the screen and choose whether you want sound with your spins to giving you a wide betting range that is easy to adjust according to your own specific needs.
Simplified betting in Spectrum
Whether you’re new to the world of online slots or just like uncomplicated spinning fun, Spectrum offers simple entertainment and an easy-to-use game format. Even the betting is as simple as can be, as the traditional paylines have been banished in favour of multiple ways to win. This means that you only need to decide on your betting level and you’re good to go.
There’s no need to decide on how many paylines you want to play, enabling you to get on with spinning and winning as quickly as possible. This is great if you don’t want to waste time on making multiple decisions and simply want to get on with the spinning fun.
This format, however, does mean that starting wagers are slightly higher than average in Spectrum, compared to other games and fantasy themed slots. The minimum you can bet is 50 credits which may sound a lot but, actually, when you consider the number of winning opportunities on offer, this is a very fair price to pay.
There are literally hundreds of combinations that you can land while playing this entertaining slot, which is available to enjoy on a variety of different devices. This means that you could enjoy spinning and winning on your laptop in the comfort of your favourite armchair or on your smartphone on the train on the way to work. Never has enjoying all of the entertainment and excitement offered by online slots been easier to access, from wherever you happen to be.
Having that slightly larger initial wager also adds to the excitement factor. You definitely don’t need to be a high roller to enjoy playing this game but it does make it easy to really enjoy the thrill of the spin.
The lack of paylines also makes for a very relaxed game experience. What’s more, the laid back feel of the control panel continues across the board with the likes of the Autoplay function offering a delightfully simple experience. Forget having to decide on the number of waves you want the Autoplay to operate, for example. All you have to do is click either on or off and away you go.

Features in Spectrum
Compared to many other games which, like this one, are available to play on your mobile and tablet, as well as on your desktop computers at home or at work, this Novomatic slot is a little short on features. This shortage is not necessarily a negative, however, especially if you like an uncomplicated gaming experience or you are just learning how to play online slots.
There is also one special feature to enjoy, allowing you to have the best of both worlds if you like the idea of an added extra when it comes to your spinning experience, but without getting bogged down by superfluous bonuses and diversions away from the main game.
In this slot, the feature is based on a Reel Lock idea. This is where a pair of connected reels are spun at the same time, twinning with each other and landing the same symbols. This can really help in creating winning combinations and boosting your prize pot. The Reel Locking bonus is a major draw for the game, especially as further reels next door can also lock, meaning that there is the potential to land the same icons on multiple reels.
The game also has a Wild symbol, which can substitute for other icons in the game to help create winning combinations and improve your prize potential.
Visual appeal of Spectrum
As well as being fast-paced and offering some nice payouts, Spectrum also looks fantastic. It is undoubtedly a classic fruit machine game, but no one can deny that it also benefits from a very modern twist.
It has a black background, contrasting sharply with the colourful symbols, which shine out in neon style. The symbols themselves are mostly the playing cards - 9, 10, J, Q and K, along with the spectrum triangles, treble bars, double bars and single bars.
The spectrum is the highest paying symbol in standard play, delivering a win of 40x your original stake if you can manage to make a combination of five of the triangles. The Wild, meanwhile, can substitute for any other symbol in the game.
How to play Spectrum
Spectrum is designed to be incredibly easy to play, whether you have been spinning for years online and in land-based casinos or this is your first foray into the world of online slots.
Spectrum offers a multi-language interface to make it accessible to as many players as possible and to ensure that most people can easily understand the control panel’s elements and how to play and make the most of the game’s potential.
A window in the centre of the control panel allows you to choose how much you want to bet on each spin that you play. This allows you to easily tailor the action to fit in with exactly how you want to play. If you’re a more cautious spinner, then it is easy to set the value to the minimum spin of 50 credits, or this can be easily be raised to an amount that should get the adrenaline levels booming, even if you’re an aficionado of high rolling action.
There is a button on the right of the panel which will set the reels in motion and this same button will also allow you to stop the reels spinning and speed up the action if this is how you like to play.
There are user settings which let you set up the specific size of the screen and control the sound of the game. It’s also important to note that you can play the game direct from a browser and there is no need to make a download to enjoy the action.
Other games if you like Spectrum
If you enjoy playing Spectrum, there are many other games that you could try for free. These include the Starburst slots game and other free to play slot games from Novomatic. These include the likes of Always Hot, Apollo God of the Sun, Beetle Mania Deluxe, Book of Ra, Buffalo Magic, Columbus, Dolphins Pearl, Fruits n Royals, Hot Chance, Hoffmania Just Jewels, Kingdom of Legend, Magic Jester, Sizzling Hot, Spinning Fruits and Spinning Stars.
Winning with Spectrum
Novomatic calls its paytable the Winplan and what you can win directly depends on how much you bet. The biggest win is 2,000 credits if you make the minimum stake, but this can go up to almost 400,000 if you bet 10,000. The biggest payout rewards you for collecting the Spectrum triangle icon, which looks like the front cover of Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd.
What does Spectrum mean?
This game reflects the definition of spectrum, which relates to a band of different colours, such as those found in a rainbow. This is why the designers have focussed on colourful icons which give the game a really exciting glow as the reels spin away.
The different colours seen in the rainbow are made by the separation of light components by various degrees of refraction, depending on wavelength.
The makers of Spectrum
Spectrum comes from the Novomatic stable. Novomatic is an international company which was founded in 1980 by billionaire, Johann Graf. In 2012, the company made a massive €3.2 billion, including a €359 million profit.
Novomatic has offices in no less than 50 different countries, as well as operating casinos in the likes of Chile and Berlin. The Novomatic Group is made up of three different holding companies.
Novomatic bought Talarius, a UK company, in June 2016. It was previously owned by the Tatts Group of Australia. 2016 also saw the forming of a partnership between Novomatic Lottery Solutions (NLS), which is a Novomatic subsidiary and Gamevy, which is a digital scratchcard and instant win provider. The idea was to give NLS a chance to work within and focus on a ‘broader lottery demographic’.
Novomatic is undoubtedly one of the world’s biggest gaming technology companies. In 2017, it had a turnover of a huge €2.5 billion and currently exports gaming equipment to over 75 countries, as well as having locations in over 50 countries.
Novomatic employs around 30,000 people around the world, and operates around 270,000 global video lottery terminals (VLTs) and gaming terminals in more than 2,100 gaming operations, and also via rental concepts.
The group has numerous international subsidiaries, allowing it to be active in every area of the gaming industry. Its product range features everything from land-based gaming services and products to sports betting and lottery solutions, social and online and mobile gaming solutions, cash management products and management systems.
Novomatic also claims that research and development is a major priority for the group and it has many technology centres working to maintain its position as a developer of innovative gaming materials and products.
The group’s core markets are truly international and include European Union member states and other European countries. There is also a focus on stable growth in the likes of the United States, Asia and Latin America.
Who is Johann Graf?
Johann Graf was born in 1946 and is the Austrian businessman who founded and owns the Austrian gambling company known as Novomatic. He started out as an apprentice butcher, something which was fairly unsurprising, given that this was the family business.
It was expected that Graf would take over running his family’s butchers shop, but in 1974, he decided to take a different path and this was the year that he founded the Brodnik & Graf GmbH company, along with Gerhard Brodnik. This firm specialised in the importation of pinball machines from Belgium, which were set up in brothels, cafes and pubs.
Today, divorced father-of-three Graf has left behind his one bedroom flat and he now lives in Vienna where he has a collection of vintage cars. His haul consists of around 120 vehicles, most of them Jaguars.
He has been named as number 208 in the Forbes’ global billionaires list and in 2015 he was said to be worth $7 billion. His eldest child is Novomatic’s chief technology officer.
