The game design
Like all games from Merkur, the graphics in Treasure Bay are good and the gameplay is neat and tidy. The reels are set against a sandy beach, where a number of items have been washed up and - we assume - some treasure is buried. The 10, J and Q are your low scoring but common symbols, followed by the slightly more generous A and K. Next come the parrot and compass, followed by highest paying ship and map.
How to play Treasure Bay
This is a simple game to play, with an easy-to-grasp two-step wagering process. Choose a bet per line of £0.01 to £0.40 and activate between one and 50 paylines, making the minimum possible bet just £0.01 and maximum bet a fairly decent £20.00. Players can then select to autospin up to 100 spins or simply use the large green button in the bottom centre of the reels to spin each game themselves.
Wilds and scatters
The female pirate is your lucky wild, substituting for all symbols except the scatter. Look out for three or more of the treasure chest scatter bonus symbols, as not only does this icon pay out a 250x multiplier of the line bet but also it triggers the Treasure Bay feature. This feature means 10 free spins, which will start immediately and will be played at the bet level with which you won the game.
Double gamble option
There are two gamble features, which can be played after every base game win. The first, a simple card pick, sees players gamble half or all their win and then choose a colour, which will either double or lose the amount you wagered. The second option is arguably more exciting: the gamble ladder.
During this feature you can again gamble half or all your win, and at any stage you can collect half and continue to gamble the rest. You can climb or fall down the ladder by clicking gamble, and you can keep going until you have reached the top or lost it all. You can also collect at any point along the way.
To play or not to play
This game is one of the more simple options amongst the free slots available on our site, but this is no bad thing. It is a great choice for a quick spin during your lunch hour or on the bus, as the low stakes and simplified gameplay make it easy to dip in and out. The lack of exciting bonus feature is made up for with the excellent gamble ladder.
