Cuckoo Review

Cuckoo clocks have been a staple in many homes since the 18th century, but did you ever think that there would be a slot themed around one? Endorphina are breaking the mould with their Cuckoo slot - a beautifully designed game that offers up big wins. This five reel, 10 payline slot may lack in bonus features, but the top prize of 2,400x your total bet is nothing to sniff at.

Overall Theme

The cuckoo clock theme is something we’ve not seen often, apart from in the Wild O Clock slot, so it really is unique. The birds inside these cuckoo clocks have laid some eggs which have been beautifully designed by the developer. Each egg will crack open and reveal some very generous rewards inside. The whole slot has been designed to resemble a porcelain timepiece, with the blue and white design being featured throughout.

Cuckoo

Cuckoo RTP and Variance

The RTP for Cuckoo sits right at the industry average of 96%, which is absolutely fine for an online slot. It also features a medium variance which is perfect for new and experienced players alike. Wins will come in pretty often and they’ll be for middle of the road amounts of money.

How to Play Cuckoo

The controls for Cuckoo are as simple and elegant as the design of the game. Below is a brief overview of these controls to get you started.

1.    Change your bet amount by clicking on the bet panel at the bottom of the screen.
2.    Paylines can be adjusted from one to ten by clicking the lines button.
3.    Use the spin button to spin the reels once for your chosen bet amount.
4.    The turbo button is used to speed up how quickly the reels spin.
5.    The auto button will open up the autoplay menu that sets the reels spinning on their own following your personal preferences.
6.    All other controls are located in the top right corner of the screen including the sound settings and hamburger menu which displays the game’s information.

Bet Sizes & Paytable Wins

There’s a fairly good range of bet sizes available in Cuckoo. You start out at one coin per spin if you don’t have that big a bankroll. High rollers can increase their bets up to 100 coins per spin for larger wins.

If you want to get your hands on that huge 2,400x multiplier, which is the jackpot in the game, then you will need to trigger the bonus round. However, there are still plenty of wins available in the base game. You can still win a 5,000x multiplier in the base game when you land five of the golden eggs across a payline.

Medium value symbols in the game include the black egg which comes with a 2,500x multiplier and the blue egg which awards a 1,000x multiplier. Lower value symbols in the game are represented by your standard playing cards and can give you payouts between 100x and 150x your total bet. You can generate a win by combining an assortment of brightly coloured eggs. Filling a payline with these symbols will reward you with a 50x multiplier.

Cuckoo Bonus Features

Clock Bonus Game

The main bonus feature in this slot is the Clock Bonus Game. This is triggered when you land three of the clock scatter symbols on the first, third and fifth reels. During the round, you will see a clock that has an alarm set to a time which you don’t know.

Your job is to find out what the mystery time is by moving the hand clockwise around the face. You’ll see a risk meter in the bottom left corner and this tells you how much risk there is of the alarm being set off. The risk increases every time you move the hand. The multiplier also increases with every movement so the longer you hold out, the better prize you could get.

Once you think you’ve guessed the time correctly, the hands will spin round. If the alarm goes off, you lose the game and won’t win anything. If the alarm doesn’t go off, you will win the multiplier and have another chance at the bonus game. You’ll only get two turns and this will only happen if you win the first time round.

Gamble Feature

Using the gamble feature means you can double your winnings up to a maximum of ten times. Whenever you land a win, you can select to take a risk. You’ll be taken to a new screen and presented with five playing cards. One of these cards has been revealed and you have to pick from the other four in the hopes of finding one that’s higher.

If you manage to pick correctly, your win is doubled. You can bank that money or try again to double again. If you lose the game, you lose everything so be careful.

Our Verdict

Endorphina has done a great job combining a unique concept with interesting gameplay. While there is an absence of free spins, the clock bonus game is still there to give you multipliers to boost your winnings.
