MGA are a well-known game developer in the Spanish market known for producing slots in the mid-to-high volatility range. Las Riquezas De El Dorado is one of their most popular releases yet and it joins a long list of slots based around El Dorado - the mythical tribal chief of the Muisca people.
MGA have opted to go a slightly different route to other developers, however, by building Las Riquezas De El Dorado around more of a classic, retro style. The game is designed around a 3-row, 3-reel format with just one payline.
Graphically speaking, it’s in-line with what we’d expect to see from MGA’s other titles. The background graphics are detailed and render in stunning HD and visual animations swoop across the screen during play, adding to the game’s impressive design. A subtle yet enchanting soundtrack accompanies each spin, with some cheese-y sounds emerging when a win is formed.
You’ll find a standard array of bet and game options in Las Riquezas De El Dorado, with MGA choosing to include an autoplay button and a “Bet” button - the latter allows you to cycle through the different stake options. There’s also a detailed paytable which reveals payouts and explains the in-game bonuses. We’ll take a look at these later in our Las Riquezas De El Dorado review.
Las Riquezas De El Dorado’s Symbols And Payouts
MGA have chosen to display the payouts on the right-hand-side on the screen; they sit nicely beside the reels. This allows you to quickly see which symbols are in the game and how much they pay.
The lower-paying symbols include Oranges, Plums, Lemons and Strawberries while the higher-paying icons include Bells and Green Diamonds. It’s the Red and Blue Diamonds you’ll want to try to line up though, as these pay a whopping 200 and 1,000X your stake respectively. You will also win 2X your stake for a 3-of-a-kind combo of any three Diamonds.
Las Riquezas De El Dorado’s Bonus Features
There’s a total of 5 bonuses in Las Riquezas De El Dorado. Four of these are triggered randomly, while the other - the Free Spins - requires you to land scatter symbols in the base-game. we’ll take a look at these in detail:
To trigger the free-spins feature, you’ll need to land three of the Totem scatter symbols anywhere in view during the base-game. You will then receive a number of free spins - which play out automatically. Unfortunately, there’s no multiplier or extra wilds added to the reels during the spins.
Sometimes, after forming a win in the base-game, a map will appear on screen. This indicates that you’ve triggered the Bonus Games feature - and you then get to choose one of four bonuses.
- Bonus 1 - You’re taken to a temple, where you get to pick caskets on the floor. Each pick awards a cash win, with up to four picks possible in total.
- Bonus 2 - You’ll be taken to the ‘Sun Temple”. Here, you get to spin a giant Wheel of Fortune-like wheel which can award multipliers worth hundreds of times your stake!
- Bonus 3 - You’re taken to a visual scene containing 7 blue birds. You then get to pick these birds, and each successful pick will award a cash prize.
- Bonus Game 4 - Another "pick me bonus", the 4th bonus game takes you to a temple scene. Again, you get to click various objects again, receiving cash prizes for doing so.
MGA have also packed in some additional features - these aren’t bonuses, per-se, but are more like small enhancements during the base-game. For example, you’ve got the “Vertical Lines” feature, triggered by landing the Compass symbol in view. You will then get a free re-spin, with 8 paylines active. Another is the “Cumulative Game” which is triggered by accumulating wins. Reach the “Sacred Stone” and you’ll receive a bonus win.
Nudges & Holds
As Las Riquezas De El Dorado loosely follows a fruit machine format, MGA have also incorporated nudges and holds - a nice touch, we feel. If you’re awarded nudges, you'll be able to move the reel positions forward one place, with the aim of forming a win. You can randomly receive between 1 and 4 nudges.
If you’re awarded holds (again, randomly), you’ll be able to lock between one and two reels in place. The remaining reel then re-spins, increasing your chances of forming a win!
Our Verdict Of Las Riquezas De El Dorado
While Las Riquezas De El Dorado may not have achieved the commercial success of other El Dorado games like NetEnt’s Gonzo’s Quest and ReelPlay’s El Dorado Infinity Reels, MGA have done a pretty good job. The game looks fantastic, and it’s clear they haven’t sacrificed on visuals.
Despite the game taking a classic theme, the five bonus features make for exciting gameplay - and we love that players get to choose which of the mini bonus games they play. This adds excitement and ensures you’re not stuck with the same bonus round over and over again. The RTP could be a little higher (you’ll want to play at max bet to get the full 95%) but overall we feel MGA have done a great job, and we had a lot of fun writing this review!
