‘Classic theme’ usually conjurers up images of minimalist retro games with simple graphics and gameplay, so it’s pleasing to see that MGA have infused old style gameplay with new style graphics. Bucaneros features lots of nice visuals with a 3D effect to make them stand out. The background of the game is designed to look like a casino, whilst the reel frame and dashboard have been made to resemble a land based slot machine. It’s a really nice effect because it makes players feel like they’re standing in an arcade or casino playing a real slot machine. The reel screen graphics are also nice, though their 3D effect looks straight out of 1999’s ‘Tomb Raider IV’. The pirate design is strong throughout, with ships, wenches, maps and tankards showing up on the reel screen.

Bucaneros Animations & Audio

Just like a traditional slot machine, Bucaneros features lots of loud sounds and flashing lights. The game starts with a piratey, menacing fanfare that will make you jump if you have the sound on too loud - so beware! There are many different sound effects and it can become a bit overpowering. The animations are minimal - the reels spin, the pirate wench moves when you win and the buttons and paytable flash constantly. If you visited a land based casino, Bucaneros would be the game in the corner that’s screaming so loudly that you could hear it over all else.

How To Play Bucaneros

There are two levels to this slot: the main game and the upper game. In the main game you can choose to bank your prize using the collect button or risk your prize by pressing the spin button again. If you choose to risk your prize, you could get a higher level or a multiplier. Once you get three bells on the payline, the risk system will change to one that randomly generates a prize that could be higher or lower than the prize you already had. When you collect enough points and credits you’ll be transferred to the upper game, where you can win even bigger prizes and multipliers.

Bucaneros doesn’t offer much in the way of bonuses and free spins as players get wilds and a bonus symbols and that’s all. When you get the bonus symbol, you’ll get to select between two flashing prizes and your reward will be whichever one you manage to hit collect on. Like many classic slots game, Bucaneros has a nudge and hold feature available that can help you test your luck a little more. Whenever you get a wild symbol on your reels, you’ll get a multiplier that is stored in the upper right corner and applied to any wins you receive.

Though it tries to walk the walk and talk the talk, Bucaneros ends up walking the plank for some. It’s loud and brashy with just a little too much going on - it has lots of buttons and screen visuals but doesn’t have much to it. But it will appeal to players who like a busy game and MGA online slots have modernised the graphics but the gameplay could be a little more exciting for some players. So if you like simple rewards, this might just be the slot for you. Also, since this is a Spanish-speaking game, some of the buttons and controls have not been translated over properly but hopefully this will be rectified by the game maker soon.
