Theme and Graphics
Prism of Gems has a lovely, muted colour scheme with a subtle garden theme. Surrounded by a tall glass dome, Prism of Gems seems to be set in a posh green house with stained glass scatters and shimmering jewels as its high paying symbols.
This isn’t the most inventive theme that we’ve seen from Play’n GO but we don’t mind it. There’s something to be said for games that don’t go totally over the top in terms of design, as it can sometimes be a bit much.
Here, we have a beautifully designed game with subtle design elements that work together nicely. Prism of Gems also fits in well with the other slots in the series, like Frozen Gems and Shimmering Woods.
RTP and Variance
Play’n GO’s Prism of Gems has an RTP that can actually range depending on where you’re playing. It is available at the following payout percentages:
Prism of Gems is a high volatility slot. It’s rated a 9/10 by Play’n GO’s own variance scale. However, the game’s split symbols and increasing multipliers help to break up the monotony in between the larger winning spins.
How to Win
In Prism of Gems, the pyramid shape of the reels gives you 576 winning ways. However, the game’s split symbol positions can bring the number of ways to win up to 3087.
Cascading reels are also in effect. So, whenever you hit a win, the symbols involved in the combination will disappear and new symbols will fall into their places.
At the top of the game, there are three symbol positions. If a symbol in the top row matches any of the symbols directly below it on the reels, then that symbol will split into two. This ultimately increases the overall number of ways to win.
The symbols in the top row are also called the Multiplier Reel. Whenever a winning combination occurs with a symbol in any of those top three positions, the multiplier will increase for that symbol position.
Free Spins and Bonuses
When you land three or more scatters on the reels, you’ll trigger the free spins bonus. The number of free spins you get is dependent on the number of scatters:
- 3 scatters for 10 free spins
- 4 scatters for 15 free spins
- 5 scatters for 20 free spins
During the free spins round, the active multipliers from the base game are carried over. So, you’re already off to a decent head start. They don’t reset in between spins in the bonus, either.
It takes just one scatter to earn more free spins. You’ll get 2 additional bonus spins every time a scatter lands.
Prism of Gems is not only a stunning slot; it’s also got great gameplay that really keeps you entertained as you spin the reels. It’s a pretty simple game, but there’s a lot at work to give players a fun online gaming experience.
Lots of Great Features
The Split Symbols feature is one that we’ve seen in several Play’n GO slots lately, and we really enjoy it. The feature adds just a little bit of extra excitement to the game without making things too complicated.
The increasing multipliers during the base game is also a nice touch. You don’t often see this feature outside of the free spins round, so it adds a little more oomph to the main game. Things only get better in the free spins bonus, as the multipliers don’t reset.
Variable RTP Is A Bust, As Usual
The only thing we’ve improve is the RTP. The maximum payout percentage of 96.24% is totally fine but it’s a bummer that it has to be a variable RTP that can go as low as 84.25%.
