Introduction

If you’ve always wanted to play Deal or No Deal with a pirate twist, then Bonus Island is the game for you. This quirky slot from Inspired Gaming combines features from other popular slots to deliver an engaging gaming experience for players – with 15625 ways to win, mystery symbols, free spins and more.

Theme and Graphics

Bonus Island is a pirate-themed slot which takes place on a deserted island. The game’s symbols feature all sorts of pirate paraphernalia like anchors, maps, swords and more – while Bonus Island’s top-paying symbol is the pirate captain. Overall, it’s a colourful and cheerful game with an amusing theme.

Bonus Island

Bonus Island RTP and Variance

The RTP (return to player) of Bonus Island is 95.78% - which is lower than we’re used to seeing from online slots nowadays. It’s also a medium variance slot which delivers a mix of both smaller and larger payouts.

How to Win

In Bonus Island, you have 15625 winning ways to win with every spin. There are six reels and five symbol positions on each one – so, winning combinations are created by landing three or more matching symbols on adjacent reels, starting with the leftmost reel.

Cascading reels are triggered on every win, as well. So, whenever you hit a win, the symbols involved disappear and new ones fall into their places.

Mystery Boost

In the game, you’ll notice that there are blank symbols. These are normally just blockers that will prevent any other symbols from appearing there and stopping wins from occurring too often. However, when the bomb symbol appears on the reels, these blocker symbols transform into symbols or coin prizes.

If you manage to trigger the coin feature, each of the formerly blank symbol positions will display a coin with a prize value on it. These prizes will then be added up and awarded as a payout.

Bonus Island Treasure Map Feature

The more cascades you trigger in the base game, the higher you’ll climb on the bonus meter.

  • Bonus: triggered by 4 cascades, where you have 20 items to select from which trigger cash prizes and free spins
  • Mega: triggered by 5 cascades, where you have 20 “enhanced” items to choose from, including cash prizes and free spins
  • Epic: triggered by 6 cascades, where you have 10 items to choose from, all of which are free spins

When you’re in the bonus, you’ll be presented with a treasure map and you can select three items from the map at a time. After you’ve picked three, the Captain will make an offer. If you accept, you’ll receive the cash prize; if you reject, you can keep picking and receiving more offers.

On the last round, there will be 2 boxes. You’ll pick one to receive, and it will be either cash or free spins.

Free Spins

During the free spins round, you’ll be able to benefit from an increasing win multiplier on every cascade. The blocker symbols will now always transform into paying symbols or coins which will trigger the coin feature. This time around, you can either win cash prizes from this feature or additional free spins.

Before the free spins bonus begins, you’ll be able to gamble them. You can either win a cash prize or earn more bonus spins.

Bonus Island Review

Bonus Island takes the best bits of Deal Or No Deal Megaways and Pirates Bounty Megaways and combines them into one game – except without the Megaways mechanic. We didn’t mind that there weren’t Megaways in the game, as 15625 winning ways is still pretty impressive, and there were lots of other features at play to keep us entertained.

What we like about this slot is that Mystery Symbols can lead to symbols transforming or a cash bonus being triggered. This is a nice twist on the usual mystery symbol feature we see in slots, where the symbols just transform into other (usually useless) symbols.

The bonus game is lots of fun, as well, with a treasure map version of Deal or No Deal. However, you have to go through quite a lot before you end up actually getting free spins. It’s much easier to land a cash prize than entry into the free spins round, which isn’t always a good thing (depending on the prize).

Overall, Inspired Gaming’s Bonus Island is a fun online slot that brings together plenty of interesting elements. It is sure to appeal to a wide range of players.
