Divine Fortune Megaways is a new video slot from NetEnt, and is a sequel to their original progressive jackpot slot; Divine Fortune. Divine Fortune Megaways is built around a Megaways layout, so there’s 6 reels and up to 7 rows - 117,649-ways-to-win can be active on every spin. The game’s bonuses and features include jackpots and a free spins round.

Introduction

NetEnt is one of those game developers who remain one of the market leaders at all times in the iGaming industry. They’ve long been seen as a leading figurehead in the online gambling industry, and their games - including the likes of Starburst, Gonzo’s Quest and Drive: Multiplier Mayhem - have been played billions of times, and a recent acquisition/merger with Red Tiger Gaming has allowed them to acquire a Megaways license from Big Time Gaming.

Theme and Format

Like the original, Divine Fortune Megaways takes place in ancient Greece, and the jackpots are still there - although, surprisingly, they’re no longer progressive jackpots, and are fixed - or localized, as they’re more commonly called.

Where things really start to change, is the way the game’s actually built. Divine Fortune Megaways is set on a 6-reel format, and there are between 2 and 7 rows active on every spin. This means - assuming all 7 rows are active - that there are 117,649-ways-to-win, so already, there’s some pretty significant win-potential on offer.

Betting Options

We’re pleased to see that NetEnt have chosen to offer a wide variety of stake options to players, and this allows you to wager from as little as 0.10 and as much as 100 credits on every spin.

Divine Fortune Megaways RTP and Variance

We were really surprised, when writing this Divine Fortune Megaways review, to see that the RTP is 96.06%. Now, against other video slots, that may not sound great - but for a jackpot game it’s really high, and this is a major plus-point in our eyes.

The game itself has been described by NetEnt as being medium variance - so you can expect a relatively frequent number of wins, although the size of these wins aren’t going to be up to the same standards of more volatile Megaways games like Bonanza and Queen of Riches.

Divine Fortune Megaways Bonus Features

There’s plenty of bonuses and features to look forward to in Divine Fortune Megaways, and in this section we’re going to be taking a look at what these bonuses and features are - and what you can expect when you trigger or activate them.

Falling Wild Respins

This is a feature that we saw in the original Divine Fortunes slot, and NetEnt has chosen to keep it in Divine Fortune Megaways. Whenever one of the Pegasus wild symbols lands in view, the Falling Wild Respins feature will be triggered. All wins are paid - with the wild in its original place - and then the wilds drop down one position, with a re-spin awarded.

Once the re-spin has finished, all payouts are once again awarded - and this continues for as long as wild symbols remain on screen. It’s possible to keep landing wilds, and this continuing this mini-feature for quite some time.

Free Spins

The scatter symbol in Divine Fortune Megaways is represented by a hand holding a bolt of lightning, and landing 4, 5 or 6 anywhere in view will trigger the main free-spins bonus. You will then be awarded either 10, 15 or 20 free spins respectively. Any additional scatter symbols present on the base-game trigger screen will award you an additional five free spins.

During the free-spins, the Falling Wild Respins feature is activated - and if you manage to land a wild symbol behind a wild that’s currently on the screen, the wild will expand to cover the entire reel - just like in the original Divine Fortune slot.

Divine Fortune Megaways Jackpots

We do think it’s a shame that NetEnt has chosen to remove the progressive jackpots from Divine Fortune Megaways - and while they’ve tried to rectify this by including local, in-game jackpots, it’s fair to say the gameplay isn’t quite as exciting as the original.

During the free spins bonus, you’ll notice that there are three new “Bonus Win” symbols added to the reels. These are coloured bronze, silver, and gold. Collecting five of any one of these coins will then award you a cash payout (the jackpots), and these are worth 10X, 25X and 500X your stake respectively

Divine Fortune Megaways Review

Let’s start off our verdict of Divine Fortune Megaways with a look at the positives. We absolutely love the fact that it incorporates Big Time Gaming’s Megaways mechanic. It’s also really valuable when you trigger the Falling Wild Respins feature, and if you manage to have enough Megaways active, it’s possible for wins to continue for quite a long time.

The free spins bonus is exciting - again, largely thanks to the fact that the wild re-spin feature makes for continual action - but we do feel as though a progressive multiplier could have added some excitement to the gameplay.

Now, onto the main negative - the jackpots. We find it really strange that NetEnt chose to remove the progressive jackpots, as this was, arguably, the biggest reason why players actually played Divine Fortune in the first place. We really feel NetEnt missed the boat here by not including progressive jackpots.

Still, with the Megaways mechanic active you can form big wins - it’s just quite ironic that the bigger wins come not from the jackpots, but from the base-game and the free spins bonus!
