Power Blackjack Overview
Power Blackjack delivers a different kind of blackjack with extra playing rules that let you double, triple, or quadruple your wager after you have seen your first pair of cards. It uses the same Evolution technology that was developed for Evolution’s Lightning Blackjack and Infinite Blackjack and combines blackjack with the feels of Ultimate Texas Hold ‘em.
The 9s and 10s have been taken out of the deck, but otherwise, standard rules apply. The playing strategy has been modified, however, to take into account the fact that you have fewer cards in the deck.
How to Play Power Blackjack
Power Blackjack is played with the usual 8 decks with 9s and 10s removed. The picture cards remain, but there are 64 fewer cards in the shoe, offering the chance to try new blackjack strategies.
Blackjack Similarities
Both Power Blackjack and standard blackjack are played with 8 decks and follow Vegas Rules. The dealer receives 2 cards and can peek for blackjack. The dealer always stands at 17. Players can split any pairs, double down on the first 2 cards, split aces get 1 card, insurance pays 2:1, and blackjack pays 3:2.
Game Differences
The key differences are the removal of 9s and 10s, reducing the shoe from 416 to 352 cards, and the dealer blackjack peek only occurs with ace, king, queen, or jack. Insurance is offered only if an ace shows. Players can double, triple, or quadruple down on splits and the first 2 cards.
Bets are Placed and Cards are Dealt
Decide your wager before the round. Responsible gaming is important; you can set a budget and use features like timeout and self-exclusion. For related games see Crazy Time and Evolution Gaming slots.
Betting Time
Players have 12 seconds to place bets at the start of a round. The initial wager is called the ante bet. Up to 4 extra side bets can also be placed.
Time to Decide
Once cards are dealt, you have six possible actions:
- Hit: take cards until you stand or bust.
- Stand: keep your current hand.
- Split: divide a pair into 2 hands.
- Double, Triple, or Quadruple Down: take 1 more card only.
Dealer Plays
The dealer stands on 17 or more. Players’ hands are compared to the dealer: a win pays out, a push returns your stake, and a loss forfeits your wager.
Special Features
Power Blackjack includes optional side bets:
- Bust It: bet the dealer will go bust.
- Hot 3: bet on the up card and your first pair for three 7s, 21, 20, or 19.
- Any Pair: bet on your first cards being a pair.
- 21+3: bet your first two cards plus the dealer’s up card make a three-card hand.
Payouts
Side Bet Payouts:
- Hot 3: 3 7s = 100:1, Suited total 21 = 20:1, Unsuited total 21 = 4:1, Total 20 = 2:1, Total 19 = 1:1
- 21+3: Suited trips = 100:1, Straight flush = 35:1, 3 of a kind = 25:1, Straight = 8:1, Flush = 5:1
- Any Pair: Suited pair = 20:1, Pair = 7:1
- Bust It: 8+ card bust = 250:1, 7 cards = 100:1, 6 cards = 25:1, 5 cards = 8:1, 4 cards = 2:1, 3 cards = 1:1
RTPs: Standard hand = 98.8%, Any Pair = 96.58%, 21+3 = 96.09%, Hot 3 = 96.21%, Bust It = 94.71%
Optimal Strategy
Follow strategies carefully as traditional power blackjack tips may not apply due to no 9s or 10s:
- Hit unless dealer has 6 and split 2s.
- Hit unless dealer has 2–8 and split 3s.
- Hit unless dealer has 6 and split 2 4s.
- Don’t split 5s.
- Hit unless dealer has 2–8 and you have 2 6s.
- Always split 8s.
- Never split kings, queens, or jacks.
- Aces split only if dealer has 8–K or 2–6.
- Double down on 2 5s if dealer < 10; on hard 10 if dealer 2–7; on soft 15–16 if dealer 5–6; on soft 17 if dealer 5–6.
