- Gameplay may be a bit complex
Hammerfall is a match-5 cluster-based online slot from Play'n GO. Features include transforming symbols, a bonus meter, wild multipliers, mega wilds and more. The RTP of this highly volatile slot ranges from 84.2% to 96.2%, and its top prize is worth 30,000x.
It’s been a while since Play’n GO has released a tumble slot like Moon Princess and Rise of Olympus, so we’re thrilled that the studio has brought Hammerfall into the fold. This power metal-themed slot features a huge range of different bonus features, mixed in with a little bit of Gemix and Reactoonz-style gameplay!
Theme and Graphics
Hammerfall is based on the power metal band of the same name from Sweden. The band is known for its hard and heavy sound with epic themes and melodic tunes, as well as their mascot Hector, a very dangerous-looking paladin who appears on the cover of their albums.
Hector plays an integral role in the slot, standing guard beside the reels, and acting as the game’s top-paying symbol. The rest of the symbols are various raw gems
If you’ve never listened to Hammerfall before, this game is sure to make you want to add them to your Spotify queue.
Hammerfall RTP and Variance
The RTP (return to player) of Hammerfall is 96.2%. However, you have to keep in mind that all Play’n GO games are offered at variable payout percentages depending on where you play them. This slot can have an RTP as low as 84.2% - so, make sure you know the exact return to player before you give this game a spin at an online casino.
In terms of volatility, Hammerfall is a highly volatile online slot. Play’n GO rates it an 8/10.
How to Win
Hammerfall is a Match 5 game, so you have to land five or more matching symbols in a group in order to land wins. As you hit winning combinations, the reels will cascade to cause the winning symbols to disappear and new symbols to fall into their places.
Super Tiles and Lightning Wilds
Throughout your cascades, you’ll be able to trigger two reel modifiers. Super Tiles are symbols that turn into wilds if they are part of a winning combination (the tiles outlined in blue). These are called Lightning Wilds, and they can have up to x3 multipliers attached to them.
Another great thing about Hammerfall is the Destruction feature. It’s like the Instability feature in Reactoonz that activates on non-winning spins; however, in this situation, there are four different features that can be triggered:
- Never Forget, Never Forgive: one symbol is selected and all instances of it move to the middle of the grid while destroying all symbols in their path.
- Bring It: all high paying symbols are either destroyed or transformed
- Chain of Command: a chain of symbols is selected and those within it are either transformed or destroyed
- One Against the World: all instances of one high-pay symbol are highlighted, then symbols around it are either transformed to match it or are destroyed.
As you collect winning symbols, the Hammer Charge meter will increase. 25 symbols will fully charge the meter and trigger the Song of the World feature while overcharging it will trigger the Hammer High bonus.
Song of the World
Each world has its own song. Depending on which song is playing, a different Song of the World feature will be activated:
- Twilight Princess: a 2x2 Mega Wild is added to the reels
- Second to None: all high-pay symbols are transformed into the same symbol
- And Yet I Smile: all low-pay symbols are destroyed
This is a pretty impressive bonus, as you’ll trigger all 3 Song Features at once.
Hammerfall Slot Review
Hammerfall is the kind of game where there is lots going on but it’s not overly confusing. It’s more like Reactoonz than Reactoonz 2 if you catch our drift. Interesting things always seem to be happening as you spin the reels but you don’t ever feel lost or like you’re getting the wrong end of the stick.
Of course, this means that players who prefer a most traditional gaming experience may not enjoy the fast-paced, complex nature of Hammerfall. However, if you’ve been waiting for a slot that is equal parts Reactoonz, Moon Princess and Gemix, then this is the perfect game for you.
