Theme, Graphics & Soundtrack

You may have played the Sphinx Wild slot, or any one of a number of others IGT have used to riff on the same iconic imagery of Ancient Egypt. Despite all these icons, the overall graphics of Sphinx are clean and simple. The reels are pure white, all the better to allow the symbols to stand out, and they sit against a muted grey background carved with column after column of hieroglyphs. There’s nothing distracting or superfluous, but it still creates an immersive theme. That’s except for the sound effects, which are much more those of a generic slot.

Sphinx RTP and Variance

Well, when IGT tells you straight away that the RTP for Sphinx could be anywhere from 93.09% to 97.01%, you may wonder why they bothered telling you. A range that big, from significantly below average to a little bit above, doesn’t really help you set expectations, especially when you’re reminded that natural statistical deviation allows individual spins to vary even more, both below and above the average. IGT have also declined to provide any variance information.

How to Play Sphinx

Let’s get started, shall we?

1. IGT have actually been pretty helpful, providing a basic guide to the bonus features as part of the loading screen. It doesn’t hurt to read through it.
2. For everything else you need to know, you need to look at the very top of the screen, over towards the right. Here you’ll find links to the paytable and game rules. There’s also a button to switch audio on and off.
3. Opposite these buttons on the top left of the screen are displays for your balance, win and bet, all of which go into calculating a budget with win and loss limits.
4. To adjust your bet, you’ll need to go down beneath the rules. The coin value display comes with plus and minus symbols to increase and decrease the total bet level. High rollers might be annoyed that there’s no max bet button.
5. The other displays under the reels, including balance and wins again, as well as number of lines, are not adjustable, though some will change as you play.
6. That’s all in terms of settings and information, which means it’s time to spin. The regular spin button is big and green in the centre, and will turn the reels once. Then you can consider if you want to adjust any settings.
7. If you know you want to play for a while and don’t want to keep clicking, there is a comprehensive autospin feature. Sphinx Bonus Features

It might not be a slot with wild feature like some of Sphinx’s more complex variations, but there is still an exciting bonus game that gives you some of the experience of being an intrepid explorer searching Egyptian ruins for long lost treasure.

It starts when you find the bonus symbol, represented by the gold coin, at least three times. You’ll enter an Egyptian burial chamber where you must choose between 1 and 5 of the sarcophagi, depending on the number of bonus symbols. The prize will be 5x, 20x, 100x or 250x your coin value. The other option is you find the Sphinx statue.

With a Sphinx statue you enter the Sphinx chamber where you have 5 more statues to choose between. Here your prize can be 100x, 200x, 250x, 1000x or 2500x your coin value.

Sphinx Review

At first glance Sphinx is deceptively simple. You’ve got a familiar Egyptian theme, some sleek graphics and, unlike some of IGT’s other games under the same banner, only one bonus round. That bonus round is multi-layered though, with different levels to increase your winning potential, adding a surprising and exciting amount of depth.
