Turn It Up to 11 for Spinal Tap!

It’s the rockumentary spoof by which all others must be judged - Spinal Tap. Made back in 1984, the myth of Spinal Tap continues to endure which is why, 34 years later, Nigel Tufnel, David St. Hubbins and Derek Smalls are ripping it up on the reels and turning it way up to 11 and beyond. Packed more of bonus features than Nigel Tufnel’s lycra pants, this slot has 243 to 2,187 ways to win and a special VIP Guest Pass that lets you activate the brilliant Rock Mode. Add in a 97.02% RTP and medium-high volatility and you’ll find this slot is warmer than hades.

Looks and Sounds

You are instantly drawn into this slot due to its exciting look. Set as though you are at one of the band's concerts, a crowd of adoring fans lines the bottom of the reels whilst strobe lights illuminate the top. The soundtrack, which features tunes from the band, make you feel as though you are actually there and leave you swaying along with the guitar-heavy song. You can also hear the sound of coins and a pop as the reels land, although if you manage to land a win you will also hear a quick guitar riff to make it obvious.

On the reels you will see characters from the film, with actors Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer and Michael McKean dressed as their alter egos Nigel Tufnel, Derek Smalls and David St Hubbins respectively. Taking up the other spaces on the reels are the standard playing card symbols, although these have been given a rock twist by sharing the same recognisable font as the ST band and film logo.

How to Play

To change your stake, you must click onto the ticket on the right-hand side where you can select a total bet amount of between 0.30 and 9.00 coins. Below this is the spin button which looks like no other. Shown as a guitar or amp dial which can be turned all the way up to 11, this is where players will click to get the reels spinning.

Other options include the VIP guest pass which sits on the left and will activate the Rock Mode feature to turn the 5 standard reels into 7 (more on that later), and the autoplay option where you can set between 10 and 100 automatic spins to allow you to sit back and take in all this slot has to offer. You can also click onto the paytable to find out more about the slot and the possible wins available.

RTP and Volatility

If you’ve ever wondered how RTP and volatility relate to your slots playing experience, be prepared to walk a fine line. Spinal Tap offers players a potential return of 97.02% matched up with medium-high volatility so you can expect, hypothetically at least, 97.02 coins for every 100 wagered over a huge number of spins. Those wins will come from both the base game and the bonus features, so you can keep your bankroll covered while you wait for truly epic wins to roll from the truly awesome Rock Mode.

How to Win

This is a Way Wins slot so you won’t be looking to land 5 Nigels on a payline. This type of game relies on matching symbols landing anywhere on adjacent reels which means you can potentially score multiple wins with every spin. This gives you a higher overall prize and makes the wild symbol much more important if you want to win big.

The playing card symbols are the lowest paying on the reels with the J and Q paying out 5, 10, 30, 50 and 100x if you land 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 of a kind. The K and A pay out a little more with 5, 15, 60, 100 and 150x on offer for up to 7 matches.

The band members are the start of the higher paying symbols, with the ever-changing, unlucky drummer and Derek Smalls character paying out 10, 30, 90, 150 and 250xwhen you land between 3 and 7 of the same symbol. Nigel Tufnel and David St Hubbins will award you with a touch more with 15, 50, 150, 200 and 300x available for 3, 4, 5 ,6 and 7 of a kind.

The Spinal Tap logo is the highest paying symbol in the game and is also super stacked on each reel. This means that if you land between 2 and 7 of these, you can win up to 600x.

Features and Bonuses

There are two additional symbols that you can find in this slot. The first is the wild which is shown as a skull against a green background and can substitute for all other symbols except the bonus scatter.

Land three or more of the bonus symbol on the reels and you will automatically trigger the Bonus Picker feature. This is a mammoth feature which allows you to trigger one of seven different bonuses by selecting vinyl records. Each vinyl will uncover a bonus and once you have collected the required amount, the bonus with the most vinyl will begin. Here’s what you may trigger:

  • - The World Tour - Spin the wheel to move around the world, collecting multipliers as you go. You could win up to 10,000 your bet.
  • - Stone Henge - The 7 reels become active and players are given 11 free spins. This includes sticky wilds and the possibility of retriggering the feature.
  • - Encore Free Spins - This triggers 11 free spins with the Encore Super Spin and gives you up to 2,187 ways to win.
  • - Stairway to Hell - 11 free spins on all 7 reels with the chance to land an 11x multiplier and additional free spins.
  • - Record Deal - Choose one of the lucky records then eliminate the others before landing a cash prize. You can also swap your record if you're not feeling confident in your choice.
  • - Don’t Fret It - Choose different boxes to move up the cash ladder and choose your prize.
  • - Double Platinum - Spin the wheel and reveal a multiplier or to trigger a different bonus feature.

If you’re looking for best slot bonuses, the excitement doesn’t end there. There is one more special feature that also gives you a real possibility of winning a big prize. This is Rock Mode which can be activated when you click onto the VIP Guest Pass found next to the reels. However, this will cost when you do activate this feature as the volume dial will turn all the way up to 11 and the reels will expand from 5 to 7 giving you 2,187 ways to win.

Once this is triggered, a turntable will appear and will spin a vinyl record. Whichever modifier it lands on will be your prize, unless you want to spin again for another chance. The modifiers on offer include:

  • - Bonus Odyssey - Extra bonus symbols are added to the reels.
  • - Heavy Duty Wilds - Entire reels can turn wild with the addition of potential multipliers
  • - Wild Sparks - Random symbols will turn wild.
  • - Rock N Roll Spins - respins are triggered and will continue for as long as another symbol is added to your winning combination.

Overall Review

Film and rock fans will love this slot which gives players up to 2,187 ways to win across 5 to 7 reels. With four modifiers to trigger and seven exciting features to help you win big, you won’t want to stop spinning the reels. It’s an exciting and highly entertaining slot that has plenty going on to keep players of all preferences interested. Blueprint Gaming are renowned for packing bonus features into their slots, and that was never more true than in Spinal Tap. In fact between the base game and the Rock Mode there are eleven features paying homage to Nigel Tufnel’s iconic turn it up to 11 amps. There are also 11 free spins to be won in three of the features plus theme-appropriate bonuses like the World Tour multiplier trail and the Double Platinum wheel of fortune.

It’s pretty much impossible to fault the ambition, attention to detail and sheer love of Spinal Tap that’s gone into this superb game. It’s one of those slots that you’re happy to spin for the fun of it, but you can also buy a VIP guest pass for a few cheeky spins and random wilds and bonus symbols. If you’re new to slots then the complex gameplay can be a little confusing but what a way to start rocking some great wins! Out of 10, this slot goes all the way up to 11..
