Floating Reels and MegaJackpots Star Lanterns Wins
The "floating reels" are triggered on any win. The winning symbols all fly upward to give you another possible win. This happens both in the base game and during any free spins bonus game.
All winning combinations of symbols are evaluated, and your winnings are added to the win meter. All the symbols in the winning combo then disappear. Symbols float up from below, but in sequence rather than together. Now the reels are evaluated once again, and any winning combinations are added to the win meter. This process continues until you have a screen with no winning combinations.
MegaJackpots Star Lanterns - Watch the Spinning Star Scatter
The star symbol is the scatter, and it only appears on reels 1, 2 and 3. When it does, it spins around, throwing out light, then burns up - but not before it has given out a multiplier for any win you've currently got. Each time you see the star symbol, whether it's in the free spins bonus round or the base game, you'll get a multiplier of x2, x3 or x5.
If you get two or more symbols on one spin or across the floating reels, things start to get really interesting because the multipliers on each star are added together. Finally, the total that you've won is multiplied by the total multiplier value. That means that you can have multiplier on multiplier adding up on a single spin.
MegaJackpots Star Lanterns, Wilds and symbol payouts
Each star symbol pays twice whatever you bet on each line. The beautiful red lantern is wild and substitutes for all symbols except the lotus flower and the star (and the mega jackpots symbol in the real money game). It only appears on reels 2, 3 and 4.
The largest, ornate gold lantern pays 1,000 times for five of them, 150 for four of them, and 50 for three of them. The red and gold lantern with the figure of the man pays 500 for five of them, 100 for four of them, and 25 for three of them. For the white lantern, it's 400, 75 and 20 for five, four and three respectively. For the mauve lantern, it's 300, 50 and 20 for five, four and three of them.
Then there are the three paper lanterns. The yellow one pays 50, 15 and 5 for five, four and three of them. The blue and green lanterns have the same win levels: 40, 10 and 5 for five, four and three of them.
The line wins pay left to right and are always multiplied by the line bet.
The Lotus Flower Unfolds in MegaJackpots Star Lanterns
The beautiful lotus flower is the bonus symbol. You need to get three of these to win a multiplier of twice your total bet.
Getting three bonus lotus flowers anywhere on reels 1, 2 and 3 trigger the free spins bonus. However, note that once you're in the free spins game, the bonus symbols won't appear; they only pop up in the base game. This is because the bonus game is actually using a different reel configuration from the reels in the base game. In the bonus game, there are more Star Multiplier features than in the base game.
You can't trigger more free spins when you're in the free spins bonus game, and free spins are wagered at the same line bet as the spin that triggered the feature.
You have to choose one of the beautiful lanterns to find out how many free spins you've won. This will be between 4 and 14 spins.
Customising your MegaJackpots Star Lanterns Bets
The number of paylines in the game is fixed at 20 and cannot be altered. However, you can fix the line bet to any amount between 1.00 and 100 using the left and right arrows on each side of the button. Your total bet will be calculated and displayed automatically.
Unlike some games, you don't have the option to switch between coins and credits, so the betting customisation is fairly simple. Your balance is displayed toward the right of the dashboard area.
Autoplay in MegaJackpots Star Lanterns
The Autoplay control is on the right of the dashboard; look for the square pink button. Again, Autoplay is relatively simple compared to some games from people like Microgaming. They have settings that can override Autoplay once a certain level of winnings occurs, for example. Here, you can click on the Autoplay button to choose between 10 and 50 spins to run automatically. When you do this, "Auto Spin" will be displayed above the Spin control.
However, the autospin feature will stop if a bonus is triggered or if there isn't enough credit to carry out the number of spins you have chosen. There's no "quick spin" option, so this takes as long as it takes. However, the screen movement is mesmerising, so you can't really complain - it's very relaxing to watch!
To stop Autospin manually, just click again on the pink button.
What is IGT up to next?
IGT has been spicing things up for players with its "PLUS" developments, such as Cleopatra PLUS. These offerings keep a check on player loyalty and reward the most loyal players with extra content, more entertainment, and even a higher Return to Player (RTP). These new games mix storytelling with player quests and rewards, such as unlocking new features.
IGT is also looking at adding skill levels to many of its games and giving players a bit of a say in how the action unfolds. Like the rest of the industry, they realise that the upcoming generation is completely mobile-focused, so the company needs games that function just as well on mobile and tablet. The company has been criticised for being slow to understand the full impact of the switch to mobile by younger players, but they certainly realise it now. IGT is also well aware that interactivity is what keeps players coming back for more.
If you liked MegaJackpots Star Lanterns, you'll love…
Fortune 8 Cat (get it?) is one of those cute golden cats with the waving arm that will bring you fortune and good luck. Their real name is Maneki Neko, and Lightning Box Games thinks they're waving you on your way to a great win. You get not just a choice of bets but even a choice of multipliers with a value of up to x5. Eight is a lucky number in Chinese culture, and the 888 symbol is especially fortunate. The game's wild is an 888, while the scatter is a Chinese firework that could bring you a cracking 5,000 win.
The beautiful Lotus in MegaJackpots Star Lanterns brings a bonus game. In Golden Lotus from Real Time Gaming, there are white and gold lotus flowers, along with red-capped lanterns. he graphics aren't up to the standard of MegaJackpots Star Lanterns, although they are elegant and picturesque, but the gameplay makes this game worth a visit. White lotus scatters can give you a multiplier of x500 on your bet. As for the golden lotus, get three or more and you'll enter the Garden feature. You can win x10 your original wager, or get up to 20 free spins with all wins doubled. Three or more of the white lotuses get you eight free spins and triple your winnings. In short, Golden Lotus is definitely worth playing.
Of course, we all know IGT as the makers of mega popular slots like DaVinci Diamonds, Wild Wolf, Golden Goddess, She's a Rich Girl, and all the rest, but the fact is that they do seem to do Asian-themed slots extremely well.
Take Water Dragons, a Japanese-themed slot that features beautiful Japanese-influenced graphics of fish jumping out of the water, bonsai trees, dragonflies, pearls, a temple, and a Lotus flower. IGT has taken its usual care to package a whole experience for the gamer, so you hear rushing water in addition to the music. The pearl acts as the scatter and can deliver free spins that can retrigger over and over, right up to a total of 255 free spins. For this feature alone, Water Dragons is worth a look.
Another of the IGT slots with an Asian theme is Dragons Temple, which comes with an entire chorus line of five dancing dragons! The graphics are nowhere near as detailed as MegaJackpots Star Lanterns, but there's fantastic animation on the expanding wilds. A dragon rushes up the reels then slithers about, ready to pounce, giving it a great visual impact. Three of the black and white yin and yang symbols trigger the free spins. By the way, is this the slot with the longest spin time ever? It seems to go on and on; let’s see what you think!
And before we leave the jackpot slots, try the Jackpot Giant slot. Playtech's 50-payline game is set in a volcanic landscape where there are regular hot flows of cash from the Jackpot Giant. With great animation and colourful graphics, this is a slot with style, humour and heart. The giant's a stacked symbol, of course, and the transparent reels let you see the island behind them. There's a bonus volcano and great gameplay, so it’s definitely worth trying.
