We love it when an online slot has a narrative, and you don’t get much more story-driven than ELK Studios’ Nitropolis slot. This game has such an interesting storyline, as it takes place in a dystopian setting where there are only four species left, and they have broken off into their own gangs: the Rogue Rats, the Pug Thugs, the Gritty Kitties and the Dirty Dawgs. If those names aren’t enough to get you on board playing, I don’t know what will.

On top of this, it’s just a great-looking game. The poker symbols are designed to look like paint splatters and each of the characters has their own interesting personality. There’s also a fun soundtrack playing in the background that fits with the dystopian theme.

How to Win

Winning combinations in ELK Studios’ Nitropolis slot are triggered by landing three or more matching symbols on adjacent reels. This is a very simplified version of how things work, because there are expanding symbols called Nitro Reels that can lead to the game having up to 85,155,840 winning ways.

Nitro Reels and Respins

Nitro Reels can appear on any spin, and in any position on the reels. When this happens, a single symbol will cover two vertical positions and contain 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 symbols – which means you’re going to have a lot of symbols in your winning combinations. This is a bit similar to the feature you’ll find in Nolimit City’s Punk Rocker.

Respins Feature

Whenever you hit any win, you’ll be given a respin. If there are Nitro Reels active during a respin, there is a chance that the number of symbols in the reel will be upgraded for bigger wins. If your respin doesn’t lead to another win, you may get a Second Chance, where your Nitro Reels respin.

Free Spins

When you land three or more bonus symbols, you’ll trigger the free spins round. You can win between 10 and 25 free spins.

When you’re in the free spins round, Nitro Reels will remain sticky. This means that the symbols inside the Nitro Reels will spin but you’ll always have the same number of additional symbols in that reel.

Reading over this review, Nitropolis sounds like a bit much – but, all you really need is a few spins to get to grips with things. The whole concept of Nitro Reels is difficult to put into words, so you really have to see it to believe it.

ELK Studios’ Nitropolis slot has lots going for it, as it not only has some great bonus features on offer, it’s also a fun game with an entertaining theme.

It also helps that there an impressive 10,000x top win available. Plus, the more than 85 million potential winning ways is pretty fantastic.
